Folding Structures

All these structures are inspired by Lygia Clark’s movable structures and her philosophy of playfulness. Each day you can change the shape of the book because of the nature of the wire edged binding. Each book can be viewed flat or as a triangular concertina.

Closure

The Gestalt definition: Closure occurs when an object is incomplete or a space is not completely enclosed. If enough of the shape is indicated, people perceive the whole by filling in the missing information. The story is presented as a rebus puzzle.

Snowdrop

The snowdrop pushes upwards through the dark cold soil into the light. It is changed by the wind follow this pattern.

Folding structure

Change the shape daily in pursuit of Lygia Clark’s playfulness. Gelatin printed with embellishments.

'Ultimately the artists’ book must be seen as a culmination of ideas and acquired skills that the artist has struggles with over an extended period of time.
(And a precise container of those energies).'
